Earth to Fire Studio

Earth to Fire is a working pottery studio in Hobart, a space built for learning, practising and making well.

It’s a studio designed for people who want to develop real skills, spend time at the wheel, and work steadily with clay in a supportive environment.

We believe craft grows through repetition, patience and shared knowledge.

The Space

The studio is set up for both independent practice and guided learning.

You’ll find:

  • Dedicated wheel-throwing stations

  • Large shared worktables for handbuilding

  • A glaze area with a range of studio glazes

  • Electric kilns for consistent, reliable firings

  • Shelving for works in progress

It’s a practical, working studio, designed for making.

When the studio is open, there’s time, space and the right tools to focus properly.

How the Studio Works

Earth to Fire operates as a structured open studio.

Members can attend whenever the studio is open, with no bookings required. You choose the rhythm that suits your life.

An instructor is always on site during open hours. We’re here to guide, troubleshoot and support your progress, while still giving you the space to develop your own voice and direction.

The studio runs on shared responsibility:

  • Clean your space thoroughly after use

  • Respect equipment and materials

  • Be mindful of others working around you

A well-run studio depends on everyone contributing to the atmosphere.

Pottery involves dust, heat and heavy equipment. We take this seriously.
We’ll show you how everything works. If you’re unsure, ask.

Who It’s For

The studio welcomes:

  • Beginners who want to build solid foundations

  • Returning makers picking clay back up

  • Hobbyists looking for consistent practice

  • Makers wanting to refine technique

You don’t need experience, but you do need patience and curiosity.

We encourage steady skill development rather than rushed results. Clay rewards time.

The Culture

Earth to Fire is built around respect for craft and for each other.

It’s a space where:

  • People concentrate

  • Conversations happen naturally

  • Skills are shared

  • Mistakes are part of learning

Some days are social. Some days are quiet and focused. Both are welcome here.

The aim is simple:
To create a studio people look forward to coming back to.
